The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you, as a California consumer, the right to stop companies from selling your personal information to advertisers and other third parties. Best of all, you don’t have to go around to all of the thousands of companies using your personal information. The CCPA lets you designate an “authorized agent” to contact companies about your data for you.
This Consumer Reports experiment is designed to test how we might automatically send your data preferences to corporations, data brokers and other firms. Just provide us with your contact information and give us permission. We’ll do the rest.
The CCPA is the nation’s most sweeping online privacy law. But we need to make sure the law is actually working for consumers.
Your data is valuable
Data brokers buy and sell your most sensitive data, including information about your activities online and through apps—often without your knowledge.
Your permission matters
You should be able to easily control who sees (and profits from) your personal information. But too often, companies are making it difficult for consumers to exercise their rights.
Data privacy is your right
All consumers should have meaningful privacy protections. Your insights will help ensure that you, and consumers throughout the country, are able to enjoy their right to privacy.
You may know Consumer Reports for testing and ratings, but we also lead powerful campaigns with our members that make our communities safer, fairer, and more sustainable. Join us by taking action today.
